     Julia Amanda West was born on 25 March 1863 in Racine, Racine County, Wisconsin; Records of her death (death record, cemetery file card) identify her birth year as 1866, while the 1900 census shows 1863. 1863 is chosen since birth dates appearing in death records are generally less reliable than census records provided by the individual.3,4 She was the daughter of George R. West and Margaret McRitchie. She married Frank Calligan, son of Michael L. Calligan and Catherine McGee, on 2 January 1889 in Racine, Racine County, Wisconsin.5 She became Suzayne Margaret Calligan's adoptive mother on 21 September 1905 in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin.6 Her husband Frank died on 18 February 1913. She died on 11 September 1933 her home, 1625 E. Marion St., in Shorewood, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. She was buried on 13 September 1933 in Forest Home Cemetery in Milwaukee, Milwaukee county, Wisconsin.2

In the 1900 census it shows that her father was born in England and her mother in Scotland. Her death certificate indicates her father was born in Scotland.

     Frank Calligan was born on 18 July 1860 in Fort Dodge, Webster County, Iowa.1 He was the son of Michael L. Calligan and Catherine McGee. He married Julia Amanda West, daughter of George R. West and Margaret McRitchie, on 2 January 1889 in Racine, Racine County, Wisconsin.2 He became Suzayne Margaret Calligan's adoptive father on 21 September 1905 in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin.3 He died on 18 February 1913 in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. He was buried in Forest Home Cemetery in Milwaukee, Milwaukee county, Wisconsin.4

Frank and Julia Calligan are the adoptive parents of Suzayne Calligan, nee Faith Norma Helsom. On his adopted daughter's "arranged" birth certificate Frank Calligan's occupation is listed as "manager" and working at the C. F. Adams Co. in "household furnishings." This information was presumably supplied by Suzayne as the certificate, recording the birth in 1904, was actually created June 30, 1964. In the 1900 census it shows that his parents were both born in Ireland, and the occupation shown supports the above. At that time he was living with his wife at 823 15th Ave. in Milwaukee.
