Alexander Carpenter was born in 1551 in Wrington, Avon, England. He was the son of William Carpenter and Abigail (unknown surname). He married Priscilla (Drucilla) Dillen circa 1581 in Leyden, Holland, The Netherlands.2 He died in 1612 in Leyden, Holland, The Netherlands.

He died before 1677 in Norwich, New London County, the Connecticut Colony, which at that time was part of the of the New England Confederation. This John Bradford married Martha Bourne, had no children.

James Kirkland was born on 29 September 1792 in Pennsylvania.2 He married Eleanore Lang circa 1811.1 James purchased land (about three miles northwest of Shelby, near the intersection of county roads 215 and 58) on 6 March 1829 in Richland County, Ohio.3 James purchased land The 84 acres is located at what is now on the North-West edge of Shelby, Ohio, currently occupied by what appears to be a warehouse area. on 14 August 1832 in Richland County, Ohio.4
James purchased land (at what is now the sourtheast corner of the intersection of township roads 80 and 105, near McGuffey) on 7 May 1835 in Hardin County, Ohio.5
