Charles Evans when he was on the Snohoimish basketball team in 1915. Photo courtest Ann Tuohy.
Charles William Evans was born on 28 December 1894 in Snohomish, Snohomish County, Washington.1 He was the son of Frank Montana Evans and Minnie Belle Scotney. He married Helen Margaret Smith, daughter of Dallas R. Smith, circa 1933. He died on 29 September 1949 in Salem, Salem County, New Jersey.2 Chuck and Frank Evans were outstanding athletes at Snohomish High School in the 19 teens, and were on a championship basketball team in 1914, along with friend Eddie Mero.
After World War 1, Chuck, Frank and Eddie developed a vaudeville act and joined the west coast Pantages circuit. From there they progressed to the Orpheum and Keith Circuits and traveled throughout the U.S.
They had several talk - comedy acts, sometimes Huck Finn style with a little music and dancing, praised by critics for its "wit and harmony." They billed themselves variously as Evans, Mero, and Evans, The Queen City Trio, The Three Cheers, or The Scott Brothers and Vernon.

When vaudeville died in 1929 with the advent of motion pictures and the depression, the Snohomish boys disbanded their act and went their various ways.

(Eddie Mero was described as an "actor" living at home of his parents in the 1930 Snohomish census. He later moved to Santa Barbara, California, where he went into the creamery business with another childhood chum, and married. He died in Santa Barbara at age 88. His daughter has his wonderful scrapbook of their vaudeville travels, including playbills, laundry bills, costumes, train tickets, etc.).
