Amasa Maroe Cleaveland was born on 27 November 1812 in Gorham, Ontario County, New York. He was the son of Asaph Cleaveland and Polly Hawkes. He married Sophronia Lobdell, daughter of Jacob Lobdell and Hannah Boughton, on 25 February 1835 in Victor, Ontario County, New York. Amasa purchased land (two parcels) in the amount of 80 acres on the east side of Flint road across from what is now the Flint cemetery on 5 April 1836 in Steuben County, Indiana.3,4 His wife Sophronia died on 25 January 1852.5,6,7 He married Elizabeth Miller on 11 February 1852 in Steuben County, Indiana.8 He married Jane Castner on 10 June 1853 in Angola, Steuben County, Indiana.9 He died on 7 October 1863 in Angola, Steuben County, Indiana.5,6 His remains were interred Flint cemetery Section C, Lot 47, in the , Flint, Steuben County, Indiana.
Amasa reportedly lived in California for a time. His name is spelled without the 'a' in the 1899 Genealogy but both his and his wife's gravestones use the 'a' as do the entries in the 1850 and 1860 census reports. While the 1899 Cleveland/Cleaveland Genealogy shows his birthplace to be Gorham, Mr. Roger Parsell is in possession of information that suggests he was born in Skaneateles. These towns are about 30 miles apart in the finger lakes region of the state. The marriage to Jane Castner, reported in the county marriage record book, has been confirmed by the 1860 census listing Jane, age 28, as the senior female in Amasa's household, the children Adelpha and Mary were ages 18 and 14 at that time. It is interesting to note that, in the 1870 census, it is shown that Amasa's daughter Adelpha was the wife of George Golden, and they had as a domestic servant a Sarah Castner, age 19; Sarah would have been born in 1851, two years before Amasa married Jane Castner and a year before his wife Sophronia died. Based on the relative ages, Sarah could have been Jane's daughter, perhaps by a previous marriage. Amasa was elected Steuban County Commissioner August 2, 1847, and was a Judge of the Probate Court 1851-1852.
There apparently was some disagreement among family members after his death. Recorded in the 19th District Court on 4 January 1865, just about a year and a half after he died is a judgement for partition of the lands owned by his widow Jane (Castner) and his daughters Nancy and Adelpha and her husband George Golden in favor of his other daughter Mary Hannah, who was only 19 at the time and represented by a guardian Abijah D. Parsell. The judgement resulted in one fourth of the value of certain lands being transferred to be held for Mary. A copy of the recorded judgment is on file.10,11

The parentage of Sophronia is somewhat in doubt; Rodger Parsell reports that the Lobdell Genealogy says her father was Jacob, while a notation in the Cemeteries of Steuben County (Vol I pg 357) indicates her father was Philip Lobdell. No independent proof has been yet been located one way or the other. Sophronia Lobdell was born on 30 November 1804 in Victor, Ontario County, New York.3 She was the daughter of Jacob Lobdell and Hannah Boughton. Conflicting evidence states that Sophronia was born on 25 November 1808. This date for the birth was calculated back from the data on her gravestone.4 She married Amasa Maroe Cleaveland, son of Asaph Cleaveland and Polly Hawkes, on 25 February 1835 in Victor, Ontario County, New York. She died on 25 January 1852 in Angola, Steuben County, Indiana.5,6,7 She was buried in Flint Cemetery in Flint, Steuben county, Indiana.7
According to Roger Parsell, Sophronia wove a Jacquard tapestry while waiting (in 1834) in Victor, NY for her fiancé, Amasa Maroe Cleveland, to return from Flint to claim her. That tapestry, in 1999, was in the possession of Hazel (Stratton) Parsell.

She is shown as Louise in the Lobdell Genealogy. She died in San Diego, San Diego County, California. Nancy Louisa Cleaveland was born on 8 September 1839 in Flint, Steuben County, Indiana.3 She was the daughter of Amasa Maroe Cleaveland and Sophronia Lobdell.
In the 1907 Lobdell Genealogy it is stated about Louise: "In religion, a Spiritualist. Unmarried. Residence San Diego, Cal." A marginal note in the Lobdell genealogy, reportedly written by Eula Golden Parsell, says "After Grandfather Cleveland was married the second time Aunt Lou went to make her home with Mrs. Wallace Lobdell near Bedford, Michigan." Although Amasa Maroe Cleaveland was Eula's Great Grandfather, this is probably who she was referring to.

He died on 31 January 1866 in Steuben County, Indiana. His remains were interred Flint Cemetery Section C, Lot 38, in the , Flint, Steuben County, Indiana.
For a time Osmer worked for Jason Dove as a day laborer along with his younger brother George. Osmer was a member of the Fifth Indiana Cavalry, and was captured at Macon Ga., and was taken to Andersonville Prison and thence to Florence, S.C. There he escaped but was again captured after three or four days and was confined at Florence till paroled, March 1, 1865. Was then transferred to the general hospital in New York City. His sufferings while a prisoner were intense, and his feet so bruised and lacerated in endeavoring to escape from Florence that after his exchange it was found necessary to amputate all his toes. He came home to Angola in August, 1865, and died of consumption, induced by his exposure and sufferings, Jan. 31, 1866, aged twenty-seven years, two months and four days according to a reading of his tomb stone as recorded on a biographical record card in the Carnegie (Angola) library (the stone is unreadable in the mid 1990's).
His name is spelled without the 'a' in the Steuben County History and on the Civil War monument in Angola square. The 'a' appeared on his gravestone and is shown in his record in the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System.3,4,5

Milton R. Benner was born on 28 June 1845 in Pennsylvania.3,4 He was the son of William Benner and Nancy Rothrock. He married Matilda Ritter, daughter of Phillip Ritter and Elizabeth Clemmer, circa 1867.5 His wife Matilda died on 8 April 1908; of cancer.6
He died on 16 January 1924. He was buried in Saint John's Evangelical Lutheran church cemetery in Richlandtown, Bucks county, Pennsylvania, The church records show burial January 15th, 1924, aged 78 years, 6 months and 18 days. This calculates to a birth date of June 28, 1845, which is in agreement with census reports for 1860, 1870 and 1880. It appears that the last two digits of the year were reversed on the grave stone, which shows 1854 as the year of birth.7
Milton is shown in the 1870 census as living with his parents in Richland twp, PA, and employed as a farmer. in 1880 he was living separately and working as a farmer. By 1900 he was listed as a storekeeper in Quakertown and his son Harry was shown as a shoemaker living with his parents. It should be noted that the grave marker for him is inscribed with the wrong birth year - 1854 instead of the correct 1845.8,4,9
