One of the three copies of the Order of Adoption, Milwaukee County Court in Probate, is in the possession of her son, Richard. The form has the name of the Children's Home Society of Wisconsin, Loan and Trust Building, Milwaukee at the top. It states, in part, "Upon reading and filing the petition of Faith Norma Helsom by Frank Calligan and Julia W. Calligan his wife, from which it appears that the said Faith Norma Helsom is a child of Charlotte Helsom, that said Faith Norma Helsom is an infant under the age of fourteen years, and was born on the 16th day of March AD 1904 in Eau Claire Wisconsin, not in lawful wedlock, that said Frank Calligan and Julia W. Calligan his wife, who are inhabitants and residents of the County of Milwaukee desire to adopt said infant as their child; That the said Charlotte Helsom the mother of said child, did by an instrument in writing bearing date on the 18th day of April AD 1904 lawfully assign and commit said child to the care and custody of the Children's home Society of Wisconsin, ... It is ordered and adjudged that the allegations in said petition are proven and true, and that from and after the date hereof said Faith Norma Helsom shall be deemed to all legal intents and purposes the child of the petitioners Frank Calligan and Julia W. Calligan, his wife, and that the name of said child shall be Margaret Suzayne Calligan according to the prayer of said petition. Dated this 21st day of September, 1905 By the Court, ????? ?. Attached to the order is an office memo on the stationery of the Children's Home Society, which includes the statement "Mother's residence was Menomonie, Dunn County, Wis. Was of very good family I am told by the Dr. who attended her. The Dr. took the necessary papers for ?? and there is no way that the child can be traced."
