Emily A. Cleveland was born circa 1845 in Jackson Twp, Steuben County, Indiana. She was the daughter of David Hawkes Cleaveland and Eliza Littlefield. She married Newton Clark circa 1866.¹ In the 1860 Indiana census there is an Emily, age 15, residing (and doing housework) along with Osmer and George Cleveland with the family of Jason Dove. Although Emily's surname is not identified as Cleveland, since this is eleven years after the death of Emily Cleveland's father it is likely that the Emily in the census report is Emily Cleveland, and she is working and living along with her brothers on the Dove farm.

     James Kirkland Jr. was born on 9 March 1817 in Ohio.⁴ He was the son of James Kirkland and Eleanore Lang. He married Harriet Parcher, daughter of Simeon Beal Parcher and Roxannah Briggs, on 13 July 1836.⁵ He married M. J. Andrew on 10 January 1854 in Richland County, Ohio.⁶ His wife M. died on 28 April 1863.⁷ He married Angeline Dille on 14 January 1864 in Richland County, Ohio.⁸ His wife Angeline died on 20 April 1865. He married Charity Laubach on 19 February 1867 in Steuben County, Indiana. His wife Charity died on 27 December 1875. He died on 4 February 1876. His remains were interred Flint Cemetery Section A, Lot 46, in the , Flint, Steuben County, Indiana. ⁹.

James Kirkland moved from Richland County, Ohio, to Steuben County in 1864 [1885 Steuben County History, page 706]. Presumably at that time his daughter Nancy and son Lyman and perhaps others of his family moved with him. Two years after the move Nancy married George Cleveland, and in 1870 the Cleveland and Kirkland families were recorded adjacently in the census. James was a farmer.

     Angeline Dille was born on 18 April 1835. She married James Kirkland Jr., son of James Kirkland and Eleanore Lang, on 14 January 1864 in Richland County, Ohio.³ She died on 20 April 1865. She was buried in Flint Cemetery in Flint, Steuben county, Indiana.

     Charity Laubach was born on 15 July 1834 in Pennsylvania.³ She married James Kirkland Jr., son of James Kirkland and Eleanore Lang, on 19 February 1867 in Steuben County, Indiana. She died on 27 December 1875. She was buried in Flint Cemetery in Flint, Steuben county, Indiana.

     Bill Larue was born in Geneva, Adams County, Indiana.¹ He married Annie Pearl Graves, daughter of Thomas Leander Graves and Xantha May Logan, after 1916.

     Jane Castner was born circa 1832 in New York.¹ She married Amasa Maroe Cleaveland, son of Asaph Cleaveland and Polly Hawkes, on 10 June 1853 in Angola, Steuben County, Indiana.²

Your petitioner, Amasa M. Cleveland who wrote to your honor that on or about the ninth day of June AD 1853 he was married to Jane Cleveland and has cohabited with the said Jane from his said marriage till on or about the 17th day of September AD 1855 when the said Jane left and abandoned your petitioner without just cause and without the intention of ever returning to live with your petitioner. And your petitioner further then says said Jane has previously to said 17th day of September AD 1855 left your petitioner without cause thereby putting your petitioner to much trouble and expense in consequence of said abandonment. And your petitioner further then that said Jane is of an ungovernable, unquiet morose and malicious disposition and that while your petitioner cohabited with the said Jane the said Jane continually ??? your petitioner and his family using "inter ???" opprobrious, obscene, vulgar and disgusting language accusing your petitioner of crime Also accusing our petitioners children of incontinence without cause Also threatening your petitioner to kill him And using actual violence in attempt to kill your petitioner.

Wherefore and in consideration of the matters set forth above your petitioner prays that said Jane may be made defendant to this petition. And that the Bonds of Matrimony that heretofore existing between y our petitioner and the said Jane may by this court be decreed to be null and void.      She married Robert V. Smedley II, son of Duer Smedley and Dorothy Pearl Stoudt, on 29 August 1981 in the Central Presbyterian Church, Downingtown, Chester County, Pennsylvania.

     He married Sandra Stoudt, daughter of Richard B. Stoudt and Naomi Baughman.

     Jason Bowman was born on 30 December 1982. He is the son of Garry Bowman and Sandra Stoudt.

     Andrew Bowman was born in March 1988. He is the son of Garry Bowman and Sandra Stoudt.

     Marie French was born circa 1594. She married Robert Pease, son of Robert Pease The Locksmith and Margaret King, circa 1633.^3,4
