Harry Benner was born on 10 March 1880 California, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Milton R. Benner and Matilda Ritter. He married Mary Ann Bleam, daughter of Phillip W. Bleam and Mary C. Fluck, before 1908. His wife Mary died on 27 May 1943. He married Bertha Grainger in October 1947 Quakertown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He died on 8 April 1967 Quakertown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.2 He was buried in Union cemetery in Quakertown, Bucks county, Pennsylvania.

Harry Benner was not shown in the 1880 census with his family even though he was reportedly born 3 months before (both the 1900 and 1910 census confirm his birth as March 1880). In the 1900 census he is shown as living with his parents, occupation shoemaker. He worked at Stoneback's hardware store in Quakertown, PA, the store owned by his sister's husband. He later bought the store from Stoneback and eventually renamed it Benner's Hardware. An interesting sidelight to his personality is that at one time he was so upset with his daughter's piano playing that he took an axe and chopped the piano up. He kept a rigid and neat household.3,4

He married Susan Jeanette Ault, daughter of Jacob Monroe Ault and Elizabeth F. "Bessie" Royer, in September 1929 Bethlehem, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. Roland Benner received a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA. He was a varsity wrestler. While working at du Pont he became an expert in hydrogenation. He then went to northern New Jersey to work, probably for a pharmaceutical company - name unknown - and developed an improved process for manufacturing Tylenol. He had patents on this process in England and elsewhere. He claimed that at one time he was receiving one tenth of a cent for every Tylenol tablet sold. He later became a private consultant.
