Joseph Cleveland was born on 18 July 1689 in Chelmsford, Middlesex County in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, which at that time was part of the of the Dominion of New England.1 He was the son of Samuel Cleveland and Persis Hildreth.2 He married Abigail Hyde on 7 February 1710 in Canterbury, Windham County in the Connecticut Colony.3 Joseph and Abigail had several children: Ephraim, Jonathan, Benjamin, Dorothy, John, Elijah and Persis. For details see the cited reference.4 His wife Abigail died on 16 December 1724.3 He married Sarah Ainsworth on 31 March 1725 in Canterbury, Windham County in the Connecticut Colony.3 Joseph and Sarah had one other child besides Samuel: Ezra. Samuel Cleveland was born on 9 June 1657 in Woburn, Middlesex County in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, which at that time was part of the of the New England Confederation.1 He was the son of Moses Cleaveland and Ann Winn.2 He married Jane Keyes, daughter of Solomon Keyes and Frances Grant, on 17 May 1680 in Chelmsford, Middlesex County in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, which at that time was part of the of the New England Confederation.1 His wife Jane died on 14 November 1681.1 He married Persis Hildreth on 23 May 1682 in Chelmsford, Middlesex County in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, which at that time was part of the of the New England Confederation.1 His wife Persis died on 22 February 1698.1 He died on 12 March 1735 in Canterbury, Windham County in the Connecticut Colony.1 Samuel only had one daughter by Jane, but had several by Persis: Persis, Samuel, Ephram, Joseph, Elizabeth, Mary, Abigail and Timothy.
