     Joseph Cleveland was born on 18 July 1689 in Chelmsford, Middlesex County in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, which at that time was part of the of the Dominion of New England.1 He was the son of Samuel Cleveland and Persis Hildreth.2 He married Abigail Hyde on 7 February 1710 in Canterbury, Windham County in the Connecticut Colony.3 Joseph and Abigail had several children: Ephraim, Jonathan, Benjamin, Dorothy, John, Elijah and Persis.
