Carl Gauerke was born on 24 March 1824 in Germany; (Gorke, Kreis Greifengerg, Stettin ?).¹ He married Frieda Prust in 1844 in Germany.¹ Carl immigrated to Watertown, Wisconsin via Chicago, Illinois in 1851 from Germany.¹ He was naturalized on 23 April 1883.¹ He died on 14 October 1911 in Morrison, Brown County, Wisconsin.¹ He was buried on 17 October 1911.¹

Carl purchased 40 acres of land May 1, 1855, in township 10-N, Washington Co., Wisconsin. He was an officer and class leader of the Morrrison Emmauel Church in Morrison, Brown County Wisconsin in 1875. The 1900 census shows him living with his daughter Bertha and family in Brown County, Wisconsin.¹

Wilhelm Frederich Gauerke was born on 16 April 1855 in Jackson, Washington County, Wisconsin.¹ He was the son of Carl Gauerke and Frieda Prust.¹ He married Helena Henrietta Schneider, daughter of Anton Schneider and Anna Elisabet Hammeke, on 26 September 1877 in Montpelier Township, Kewaunee County, Wisconsin.¹ He died on 2 February 1910 in his home on the farm, Halsey Township, Marathon County, Wisconsin.¹ He was buried in Athens Cemetery in Athens, Marathon county, Wisconsin.¹

Wilhelm lived on a farm in Montpelier, then moved to Morrison in 1892 where he owned a 182 acre farm. He moved to Athens in October of 1909. He died as a result of an accident on a train (Soo Line) while returning home from a funeral. A train passing on another track lost a log; it came through the window hitting Willhelm and crushing his chest.
