William Pitman was born circa 1631. He married Barbara Evans on 29 November 1653 in Boston, the Massachusetts Bay Colony, which at that time was part of the of the New England Confederation. He died in November 1682.

He was a blacksmith in Oyster River. Married Barbara in 1653. His wife as Ann 1661-1668 at least when they had much to do with Philip Chesley, and Dorothy in 1673 ( the sole record of her was as a witness in a Chesley case). Possibly one wife was related to Zachariah Ayers. In 1657 he lived on land of William Roberts who deeded to him and son Ezekiel in 1664, giving rise to supposition that the Ann was a Roberts, but Wm. had no such daughter. In 1677 at Thomas Wheeler's house he hit Roger Rose with a pint pot and was ordered to pay the surgeon. Will, Oct 30-Nov. 16, 1682, gives to wife (unnamed) two cows and her thirds, and to all children but Mary. The mothers of the children are uncertain. Surely by Barbara, the daughter Abigail; presumably Mary & Ezekiel; possibly Elizabeth and Sarah. With wife Ann: Francis, John, Joseph, Ann,Nathaniel, Zacharias, Hannah & Judith.
