He married Effie Rachael King, daughter of Jerome E. King and Rachel Ann Shooke, on 19 June 1887.4 Rollin Eugene McCardell was also known as Eugene R.5 He died on 18 January 1930 in Williamsport, Washington County, Maryland.6 He was buried on 21 January 1930 in Cemetery at Church Street in Williamsport, Washington county, Maryland.6

The Washington County Deed Book 130, Page 85, on 14 April 1908 records the transfer of certain property from the estate of Margaret V. Shook (R. Eugene McCardell, administrator) to Effie R. McCardell for the sum of $650. According to family lore, shortly after his marriage he and his wife moved to Detroit, where the automobile industry was just beginning to take off. His wife, however, became very homesick and insisted on moving back to Williamsport. They returned to Williamsport, and he became a Railroad engineer. This latter report is supported by the 1910 censys, where his occupation is cited as locomotive engineer. At that time they were shown as living at 33 Potomac Street (E/W not specified).5
