BATES (Baytes), Edward (d.Boston, Mass. abt 1644), of Boston, Lincolnshire, Eng.; not related to Edward of Weymouth; came from Eng. as manservant to Thomas Leverett in the "Griffin" Sept. 4, 1633; settled at Boston, Mass.; member of First Ch. there, Nov. 1636; disarmed Nov. 29th, 1637; freeman, Mar. 9, 1637; granted 14 acres at Pullen Point Neck June 12, 1637; excommunicated for three offenses Nov. 26, 1643 but received into fellowship again Apr. 28, 1644; cooper; m.
